Glasgow is a modernistic city, known as the largest one in Scotland and one of the biggest in the United Kingdom. It lies near the bed of the river Clyde in beautiful surroundings. During the Medieval Ages, the city was the place where the famous University of Glasgow was built. Soon after that, Glasgow became a key point for the trade between Europe and the both Americas. The Industrial Revolution had big influence over the development of the city. Glasgow became one of the world centres of shipbuilding and engineering and there were created lots of practical and inventive ships. Even today, the shipbuilding is a main industry in the city. The region of nowadays Glasgow has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The area was famous for the fishing of salmon. Today, the city has the most important economy in Scotland. This modernistic place perfectly combines the spirit of the contemporary architecture with the remains of the Medieval Glasgow and the buildings of the 19th Century world. Worth seeing are the two main landmarks, dating from the 14th Century, the Cathedral St Mungo and the Provand’s Lordship. Glasgow has perfect examples of the Victorian Architecture, including the famous building of the Glasgow University. Very impressive is the busting city centre, bounded by the High Street on the east, and the river Clyde on the south. Glasgow is an important place for all kinds of cultural activities, as well as with many museums. One of the most popular sports of Glasgow is rugby. The city has its own club called “Glasgow Warriors”. Glasgow is one of the preferable destinations in the United Kingdom.
